Get Out The Vote in 2020

The United States government derives its power from the people. It is through the American public's consent and participation that elected officials are legitimized and empowered to act on behalf of those they represent. Voting is the primary way for the people to have a voice in government. This year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, participating in government looks different for many than it has in the past, but voting is as important as ever. 

In honor of #NationalVoterRegistrationDay, and with just 42 days to the November 3rd election, the Centre for Public Impact is sharing important information from organizations such as Better Know a Ballot, Vote 411, and Rock the Vote. This nonpartisan toolkit is designed to help you make your voice heard and support others to do the same. Regardless of who you are voting for and how you plan to cast your ballot, voting this year is as important as ever to ensure the legitimacy of our system and government.

HOW TO VOTE IN YOUR STATE

Voting can look a little different in every state. This year, with many considering voting by mail or online for the first time, it seems that there are more logistics to think through than ever before. Better Know a Ballot has broken it down with a state-by-state guide to voting. Simply click on your state for all the information you need to make a plan to vote and get registered!

ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO VOTE

You and your organization can make an impact by supporting voter registration and helping your community learn about the options they have to cast their ballot. Below are nonpartisan resources to help you get out the vote.

If you want to support voter registration…

• Rock the Vote offers a voter registration toolkit, which includes everything you and your organization need to host a virtual or in-person registration event.
• National Voter Registration Day provides fill-in-the-blank emails to help you spread the word about checking your voter registration status and registering to vote online.

If you want to help people make a plan to vote...

• Vote 411's first-time voter checklist breaks down precisely what you need to do to vote in person in 2020. 
• Better Know a Ballot's state-by-state guide provides information on what alternatives to in person voting are available in each state.

If you want to support voting in-person on Election Day…

• You can support those choosing to vote in-person by becoming an election worker. The U.S. Election Assistance Commission provides information on what is required and how to sign up to become an election worker.
