Recorded live at the Digital Governance Forum in Ottawa, Adrian Brown meets with Dr Kate Darling, a research specialist at the MIT Media Lab and a Fellow at the Harvard Berkman Center. Her interest is in how technology intersects with society, and she explores economic issues in intellectual property systems and increasingly looks at the near-term effects of robotic technology, with a particular interest in law, social, and ethical issues.

In their conversation, she and Adrian discuss artificial intelligence and the issue of privacy, especially pertinent given that these systems rely on the collection of rich data-sets, as well as how governments are already using these technologies to reshape their services to citizens. They also examine the issues of accountability and transparency, and if it is possible to hold an algorithm to account in the same way we can with humans…

The Centre for Public Impact is investigating the way in which artificial intelligence (AI) can improve outcomes for citizens.

Are you working in government and interested in how AI applies to your practice? Or are you are an AI practitioner who thinks your tools can have an application in government? If so, please get in touch.
